How it works
As in most states across Australia, returning an eligible drink container to
a Return-It Self-Serve will provide a 10c refund per container under the relevant container deposit scheme. A Return-It Reverse Vending Machine situated in
a standalone locality makes recycling easy.
All you need to do is follow these 3 simple steps:
With your mobile, place your Return-It Express Account
QR Code over the scanner located at the front of the machine.
Insert your empty containers
into the machine.
When finished, take your
printed receipt which shows
your refund details.
Your refund will be in your Return-It Express account within 24 hours.

Do I need a Return-It Express Account before I can use the Return-It Self-Serve?
Yes. You will need to register with Return-It Express and ensure your bank account details are correct to receive your refund.
Can I get a Cash Refund from a Return-It Self-Serve?
Unfortunately, No. You will need to register a Return-It Express account and ensure your bank account details are correct to receive your Exchange Refund.
When will my refund be deposited into my account?
Upon completion of your Self-Serve transaction, you will receive a receipt of your container count and value of your refund. This will be deposited into your nominated Return-It Express account within 24 hrs.
How Do I Use the RVM?
Simply follow the Instructional Steps on the sign in front of the Return-It Self-Serve machine near the container insertion point.
What if I do not agree with the container count or there seems to be a fault with the RVM system’s transaction?
Simply contact our Return-It customer contact centre on: (02) 6280 8538 and we’ll attend to your query.
Do I need to Remove the Container Lids and Bottle Caps?
Yes. It is important you remove the container lids and bottle caps before inserting into the Return-It Self-Serve.
What Container Recycle Scheme Will I Be Using?
In the ACT, Return-It recycles for the Exchange for Change, ACT Container Deposit Scheme.
